Attention! Keep these deadly summer poisons away from your pets!
Recently, I often see on the Internet experiences of people being poisoned after eating wild mushrooms, "crocodile chefs cooking", and "robots stealing things", which make people laugh and cry.
Even dogs cannot escape the curse of eating wild mushrooms and may behave abnormally after accidentally ingesting them.
But in addition to wild mushrooms, families with pets should pay attention to these poisons in the summer!
1.Organophosphate insecticides
Insects breed in the summer, and in order to protect plants from harm, some pesticides are sprayed on the grass and bushes, among which the most common are organophosphorus pesticides. However, organophosphorus pesticides can enter the body through the skin, respiratory tract, and digestive tract, endangering the health of humans and animals.
If your pet accidentally comes into contact with plants that have just been sprayed with such pesticides while playing outside, it is easy for them to be poisoned.
Because the types of organophosphorus pesticides are different and the physical conditions of pets are different, the symptoms and degrees of poisoning are also different. Mild symptoms include loss of appetite, drooling, vomiting, and diarrhea, while severe symptoms include urinary incontinence, breathing difficulties, convulsions, and coma.
2. Rat poison
In this season, in addition to the rampant insects, there are also rats. In order to prevent and control rat infestations, some areas will use pesticides to kill rats, which is another danger for furry children!
If your pet accidentally eats poison bait or poisoned rats, it may cause poisoning.
There are many types of rat poisons on the market, the most common ones are antustat, fluoroacetamide, and bromadiolone. Different types of rat poisons have different pathogenic mechanisms and symptoms.
Some rat poisons cause acute attacks with symptoms that appear within a few hours, progress rapidly, and have a high mortality rate.
Anticoagulant rat poisons may also cause chronic bleeding in cats and dogs, endangering their health. For different rat poison poisoning, the treatment measures vary.
3. Mosquito repellent products
The most annoying thing in summer is mosquitoes, although some ingredients in some mosquito repellent products on the market can cause certain harm to cats and dogs.
For example, cats have a poor ability to metabolize pyrethrin compounds, which may accumulate in the body after inhalation, thereby damaging the nervous system. DEET is toxic to both cats and dogs.
The obvious symptoms after poisoning include: vomiting, trembling, epilepsy, etc.
4. Spoiled food
In hot seasons, if food is not stored properly, it is very easy to spoil. Even if it is placed in the refrigerator, it may not be safe.
When food goes bad, bacteria will grow, such as streptococci, staphylococci, E. coli, etc. These bacteria can multiply in large numbers and produce various toxins.
If these spoiled foods are fed to pets, or if they are naughty and rummage through the trash cans and eat the spoiled food discarded in them, they may become poisoned.
Generally within 3 hours, it will cause adverse symptoms such as vomiting, diarrhea, abdominal pain, etc. If left unchecked, it may be life-threatening.
How to avoid poisoning tragedies
In order to prevent your furry children from being poisoned, parents are advised to:
1. Cats are not allowed to roam freely, and dogs are kept on leashes when going out;
2. Dogs that have the habit of picking up food at random should wear muzzles;
3. Try not to take them to relatively complex environments such as grass and bushes;
4. Clean up the garbage at home in time, and try to choose a garbage can with a lid that cannot be easily opened;
5. Keep daily chemical products (such as disinfectants, washing machines, floor cleaners, etc.) out of reach of your pets.
Poisoning by different poisons can cause similar symptoms and may develop rapidly.
Not all furry children can be as safe as the dog in the news at the beginning.
So when you suspect your pet has been poisoned, first take photos and videos of the symptoms, such as the shape of vomit and feces, convulsions, etc., and immediately contact the nearest animal hospital for treatment.
If you know the cause of your pet's poisoning, it is best to bring the relevant substances and outer packaging to provide clear directions for treatment.
Although summer is full of joy, it is also full of potential risks.
As pet owners, we need to be more vigilant and take the proper precautions to ensure our cats and dogs can enjoy the season safely and healthily.
